WMES Return to School Update - Staggered Start
Dear West Meadow Families,
We are excited to welcome our students back to our fantastic building for the 2020-21 School Year. As many are aware, we have been working to develop plans and procedures to help keep students and staff safe while returning to school. In many conversations we have likened this to building an airplane while we are flying. We recognize that some of these procedures may be challenging for students to become familiar with and will have much finalized by the last week in August and will communicate these plans to all our families at this time.
In the meantime, in an effort to have as successful a re-opening as possible, we are encouraging families to consider returning to school according to an optional Staggered-Start Plan.
If possible, we are asking families to consider attending as follows:
For students in grades 1-6
- Families whose last name begins with the letters A - L to attend school on Tuesday, September 1st
- Families whose last name begins with the letter M - Z to attend school on Wednesday, September 2nd.
- All students would then begin attending regularly as of Thursday, September 3rd.
Please Note: Kindergarten students will follow their original staggered-start and entry dates. These were sent out with your original email in June. If you have questions, or to confirm, please contact the office.
This staggered-start would allow us to work with smaller groups of students to help everyone understand the changes in expectations and routines around our school for the upcoming year. These smaller numbers will also help reduce anxieties that some may feel after an extended absence from our building. If you would prefer to send your child(ren) regularly beginning Tuesday, September 1st, we will be prepared to welcome them to the school, although the first two days would look similar in terms of activities completed.
